Reloading Course

NRA Metallic Cartridge Reloading

The NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading course is a comprehensive, 8-hour classroom-based program designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident reloader.

What is Provided

  • Educational Materials: You will receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, a course evaluation form, and the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure.

  • Equipment: All necessary reloading tools (presses, dies, scales, powder measures, etc.) are typically provided for use during the class.

  • Components: Brass, primers, powder, and bullets for the practical exercises are usually included.

  • Certification: Upon successful completion of the course and the student exam, you will receive an official NRA Course Completion Certificate.

  • Lunch: Subway sandwiches, snacks and coffee.  Vending machines are on premises.

What You Should Bring

  • Note-taking Supplies: A notebook, pens, and a highlighter are essential for marking key sections in your handbook.

  • Safety Gear: Most courses require you to bring your own safety glasses (wrap-around style is best). Some instructors may provide these, but it's always safer to have your own for a proper fit.

  • Personal Reloading Manuals (Optional): If you already own a specific manual (like Hornady, Lyman, or Speer), you can bring it to learn how to navigate its specific data, though a common manual will be provided for class exercises.

Important: What NOT to Bring

  • No Firearms or Ammunition: Most instructors strictly prohibit personal firearms or live ammunition in the classroom during reloading courses to ensure a 100% inert and safe learning environment.

What You Will Learn

The course is divided into several key lessons that balance theory with hands-on practice:

  1. Reloading Safety: The "Golden Rules" of handling primers and powder.

  2. Cartridge Components: Identifying and inspecting cases, primers, powder types, and bullet designs.

  3. Using Data: How to read and interpret reloading manuals to find safe "recipes."

  4. The Process: Step-by-step hands-on experience: resizing, de-priming, priming, charging powder, and seating bullets.

  5. Bench Setup: Tips on how to organize your own reloading space at home
