Centershot Gun Range offers several training classes for users, whether they be for commercial, law enforcement or personal interest. 

Centershot First Steps Pistol Class


Centershot Gun Range FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn guidelines for:

  1. Safe gun handling
  2. The particular pistol model parts and operation
  3. Ammunition
  4. Shooting fundamentals
  5. Cleaning the pistol
  6. Continued opportunities for skill development
Upon completion students will receive basic pistol knowledge, shooting experience on the range and a First Steps Course completion certificate. Things you need:
  • Eye/Ear protection
  • Your handgun w/ 50 rounds
Items are available for purchase or rent. Rental Prices are: $5 to rent firearm, $1 each Eye/Ear protection. Ammunition must be purchased. Due to classes being limited in size our policy is no show, no call, no refund. Concealed Pistol License Class-CPL


The intention of this course is to teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection, of self and family. This course also provides information to the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense and the mental aspects of personal protection and the aftermath of a shooting. This course is NOT for beginner shooters, there is a 21' marksmanship qualification. If you are unsure of your ability to qualify we recommend you start with one of our beginner pistol courses first. Centershot is proud to offer our CPL Class thru MCRGO (Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners), focusing on Michigan Gun Law. Items needed for class:

  • Eye/Ear Protection
  • Your Handgun w/50 Rounds.
Items are available for purchase or rent. Rental Prices are: $5 to rent firearm, $1 each Eye/Ear protection. Ammunition must be purchased. We provide:
  1. Coffee & Water (please bring a bottle). Some classes provide snacks & lunch, check individual dates.

All of this for just $130.00. Our CPL course is limited in size to help create a more personal experience and facilitate learning. If you are unable to make a class date please call to reschedule. Concealed Pistol License Renewal (CPL Renewal)


This is a class designed to renew your Concealed Pistol License. You will get 1-hour range time and a 3-hour legal review delivered by power point and videos. We cannot legally answer any questions pertaining to the law portion of the CPL as we are not lawyers. Any questions that come from this presentation will need to be directed to MCRGO (Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners). We strongly advise all Michigan CPL holders to become a member of MCRGO as they are the best organization we have found when it comes to staying knowledgeable and engaged with Michigan’s CPL laws. Prerequisites:

  • Must be a current Michigan CPL holder
  • Must be a current Michigan Resident
Class Details:
  1. Make your appointment by calling Centershot at 616-371-7468.
  2. Tuesday – Friday from 10 am – 1 pm, 1 pm – 4 pm or 4 pm – 7 pm.

Centershot Pistol Shooting Skills Level 1 - Technique Training


LEVEL 1: MOTOR SKILLS This is a class designed to teach you the way to practice, so that you can develop the motor skills needed to help you perform correctly in a stressful situation. If you are looking for a way to increase your natural skill, have successfully acquired your CPL license and have the desire to take training to the next level, this is a great way to aid you in that task. Prerequisites:

  • Student must pass a shooting test keeping all shots within an 11-inch circle from 10 to 21 feet
  • Student must be familiar with how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble their handgun
  • Must have 3 or more magazines or speed loaders for revolvers
  • Must have strong side holster
  • Need 200 rounds of ammo, which is available to purchase in store

  1. Shooting skills using the Centershot Gun Range target to help develop tighter shooting groups
  2. How to draw from a strong side hip holster
  3. Shooting from behind cover / through window / from chair or car seat
  4. Shooting while you are moving
  5. Stressful shooting exercise

Centershot Pistol Shooting Skills Level 2 - Teaching Proficiency


LEVEL 2: MUSCLE MEMORY Prerequisites:

  • Student should have taken the Centershot Advanced Level 1 class on how to train
  • Student must pass a shooting test keeping all shots within an 11-inch circle from 10 to 21 feet
  • Student must be familiar with how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble their handgun
  • Must have 3 or more magazines or speed loaders for revolvers
  • Bring strong side holster and any of your other favorite holsters
  • Need 200 rounds of ammo, which is available to purchase in store
This is a fast-moving class. It will increase your heart rate, get your nerves going, and yes, cause a little sweat. Any medical issues like getting up, down, trouble breathing, or heart problems need to be discussed with the instructor before the class. Topics Covered:
  1. Slow and fast shooting
  2. Different holsters
  3. Lights on and off shooting
  4. Simulated home and car shooting
  5. Moving to cover shooting
  6. Shooting only by command
  7. Developing the self-confidence you must have to survive

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting


This is the most thorough Basic Pistol Course available. If you’re new to pistol shooting, want to build a foundation for better marksmanship, or want to confidently qualify for your concealed pistol class- this will get you there! The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, the students will learn about firearm safety, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, pistol shooting fundamentals, adjusting their sights (sighting in), shooting positions, proper marksmanship fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities they can do on their own to improve their skills into the future. Basics of the AR-15 Rifle


This class teaches how to operate and maintain the AR-15 rifle platform. Safe operation, components, common malfunctions, cleaning, maintenance, and sight adjustments. Refuse to be a Victim


To add a new question go to app settings and press "Manage Questions" button.This is not a firearms instruction course and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Learn common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive and easy to follow. Classroom instruction on criminal psychology, automobile crimes, cyber safety, home security, and a variety of crime prevention strategies including carjack avoidance techniques, use of personal safety devices, and more. Students receive the Refuse To Be A Victim® student handbook, brochure, firearms supplement, and course certificate.




Home Firearm Safety Course


Take charge of your family’s safety and get the basic knowledge and skills to safely handle or store firearms and ammunition in the home. This is an excellent class for individuals new to firearm ownership, babysitters, in-home caregivers, or those living with someone who keeps firearms in the home. Classroom Instruction Only.
